2018 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
Its time this Tuesday, February 20th initiated the starting event of the 2018 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. This week-long celebration gets the attention of all the people of the state and the country having an annual participation of 2 million people and the work of around 29 thousand volunteers. This traditional event features live music Concerts, a Texas longhorn steer for public photo takeout, Worlds Bar-B-Que contest, Rodeo run, Downtown Rodeo Parades, Trail Rides, Livestock show, and the initial event the Go Texan Day. This is the unofficial event that marks the start of the complete rodeo show, it is meant to encourage the celebration of western culture. Traditionally held the Friday before the rodeo begins is considered an unofficial holiday were people in the Houston area participating in it shows their enthusiasm by wearing western attires such as jeans, cowboy boots, and hats, leather jackets etc.

Rodeo International Wine Competition

During this event around 3,000 bottles of wine are submitted each year to be the judge. The best ones are served to the public at the Rodeo Uncorked! Roundup and Best Bites before the starting event. More than 5,000 people purchase tickets to attend the event. Here, they can sample and try food from over more than 100 local restaurants and vote for the best one.

Rodeo Run & Downtown Rodeo Parade

This is the big official starting event of the show. It is held the Saturday before the show begins and runs through downtown Houston. The parade features Decorative floats intermingle with thousands of men and women on horseback to fill the streets with hoof beats and marching bands. Enthusiastic Houstonians join out-of-town spectators to line the streets and sidewalks to be involved in one of Houston’s most popular celebrations!

A running start to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and participate in Rodeo Run, presented by ConocoPhillips. More than 10,000 people compete annually it starts with the wheelchair race and then escalates 5K and 10K fun runs. All proceeds go to the show's scholarship fund. The run generally begins near Bagby Street and ends at Eleanor Tinsley Park.

World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest

It is one of the largest barbecue cookoffs in the United States, but it is not sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society. More than 250 teams, including a handful from outside of the United States, compete to be named best entry in several categories, including brisket, chicken, and ribs. The barbecue must be cooked on a wood fire; no electric or gas fires are allowed

One of the largest draws for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is the 20 consecutive evenings of rodeo and concert, held in NRG Stadium. More than 43,000 season tickets are sold every year, with the remaining seats 30,000 seats available for individual-show sale. A rotating stage is then brought into the arena for the nightly concert. The majority of evenings are performances by country music singers, although several nights are dedicated to pop or rock music.

It is the largest indoor livestock show in the world, For a full week, cattle auctions are held in NRG Arena for professional breeders to sell their stock. Junior market auctions are also held. Children from around the state show the livestock that they have raised, including cows, pigs, goats, sheep, rabbits, and chicken. The livestock is judged, with the winners auctioned off. It is the largest set of animals to be shown and judged of any livestock show.
