For more traditional African Americans, they choose to celebrate Kwanza a celebration that honors African heritage and is observed from December 26 to January 1, culminating in a feast and gift-giving. Each of the seven days it lasts is dedicated to one of their seven principles and symbolism.
For student's, it means a long break from school or college and is a popular time to go home and visit family. Putting colorful lights in one's house it's a very popular way to celebrate Christmas in the US.

Being the darkest time of year in the northern hemisphere, the holiday turns into a celebration of lights, with complex and sometimes very expensive displays decorating homes. Competitions for the best lighting setup are fun and common ways to celebrate the holiday!
The Christmas tree is another popular Christmas tradition in the US. Artificial or natural it's common to see a conifer tree decorating the living room of most homes, these trees are decorated with colorful lights and with ornaments that are in oftentimes also family heirlooms.

Many of the city's beautiful restaurants will be hosting New Year's Eve parties. On these, you are advised to make reservations. After you do, be prepared to enjoy delicious food, all kinds of exquisite drinks and an opportunity to end the year with a bang when the New Year's Eve Countdown begins!
